HISTORY & VISION
A living history
Collegium Vocale Gent was founded in Ghent in 1970 by Philippe Herreweghe and played a major role in developing a historically informed and text-focused approach to Baroque music. Thanks to its flexible ensemble, it moves effortlessly from solo voices for Renaissance polyphony to larger formations for Baroque, Classical, Romantic and contemporary repertoire. This musical curiosity resonates in concerts, over one hundred recordings and the Collegium Vocale Crete Senesi festival, reaching audiences worldwide.
MUSIC AS SHARED EXPRESSION
Collegium’s sound is created anew each time, in the interplay between singers, instrumentalists and conductors. Listening, precision and exchange are central. Historical insight and musical craftsmanship serve the text and its expression. In this way, music across all centuries remains fresh, direct and deeply human.
Two new voices are shaping a new programming in dialogue with maestro Herreweghe, progressively preparing to take over the artistic torch. This phased transition guarantees continuity while creating space for renewal.
